Data Policy

How QuranTEL governs source data and the evidence archive.

No unapproved source data is used. Every data decision is traceable. This policy governs source data and user data on QuranTEL.

Data governance principles

Every data input is governed before use.

The QuranTEL data policy governs both the Qur'anic source archive and any user data collected through the service. Both are subject to strict governance.

Qur'anic source data governance

No use of unapproved source data is permitted in any public-facing response. Every source in the QuranTEL archive carries a provenance record, authority tier classification, and explicit review decision before any public use.

Source provenance

All source records must carry full provenance — where the source came from, by what path it entered the archive, and who reviewed it. Sources without complete provenance records are blocked from public display.

Canonical Qur'an data

The original Arabic Qur'anic text is held separately from all other source layers. Canonical text approval requires passing a 114-chapter verification checklist. Nothing from the canonical layer displays publicly until that checklist is complete.

Human review required

Human review is required for all source intake and any advisory or synthesis content. No source enters the public archive through automated processing alone. A named reviewer must issue an explicit decision.

Audit trail

Every state change in the source archive creates a permanent, timestamped audit event. The audit trail is immutable and cannot be edited or deleted.

Data retention

Retention rules for user data and source records will be formally defined before operational launch. During the preview phase, feedback and waitlist data is held securely and not shared externally.

QuranTEL is not a religious authority.

QuranTEL presents Qur'anic knowledge for personal study only. It is not a fatwa service, not a religious authority, and not a substitute for qualified Islamic scholarship.

For religious guidance or rulings, always consult a qualified Islamic scholar or imam.
